Immersive technology creates a realistic digital environment that allow user to feel as if they are inside the environment and interacting with that.
Immersive technology
a) Virtual reality
b) Augmented reality
c) Mixed Reality
Virtual Reality (VR)
Historical Journey of VR begins in 1800.
Morton Heilig invented the first VR device called SENSORAMA in 1957.
VR is not only restricted to gaming it has a vast area like -
a) Education
b) Medical
c) Movie
d) Military
e) Sports etc.
Virtual Reality is a technology which creates a simulated environment , any one can feel this simulation by using VR Headset he will feel like he is inside that environment.
Some example of VR Headset:
a) Samsung Gear VR
b) Google's day dream
c) Google Cardboard
d) HTC vive
e) Oculus Rift
f) Play station VR
VR uses headset with builtin screen that displays virtual environment to explore.
VR headset uses Head Tracking technology, that allow user to look around the environment by simply moving his head.
Augmented Reality (AR)
Instead of transporting user in virtual world, AR takes digital images and layer them around user.
This is done through the AR device like HoloLens.
Some great example of AR:
Snapchat filter , with snapchat filter one can overlay digital images of puppy ,cat, movie car etc
another example of AR is Pokemon GO.
Mixed Reality (MR)
Some what combination of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality.
Like VR in MR also we use head mounted display (HMD) device.
MR also named as : AR 2.0
HoloLens 1 and HoloLens 2 are the example of Mixed Reality.
Extended Reality(XR)
Extended Reality is the term use to describe the full spectrum of immersive technology(AR,VR,MR).
